Although 5G technology has recently become well-known and more prevalent, technology companies are already thinking about a new step and 6G technology.
For now, this technology is still in the development and testing phase, but, just like 5G, it could represent a revolution in people’s digital lives.
One of the companies that is intensively working on the development of 6G technology is LG, which boasts of successful testing of wireless transmission and reception of data at 6G THz, in the frequency range of 155 to 175 GHz – at a distance of 320 meters outdoors.
The problem with 6G, which uses ultra-wideband frequencies, is the fact that it has a relatively short range and possible energy loss from transmission to reception. To solve these problems, LG, the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute and the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Solid State Physics (IAF) jointly developed an amplifier that can increase the transmission power and a receiver amplifier with low noise that improves the quality of the incoming signal.
As explained, the multi-channel amplifier used in the demonstration has an output greater than 20 dBm, an increase of over 5 dBm compared to the solutions that LG, HHI and IAF installed in the previous test. A receiver amplifier was also used, which minimizes the generation of noise in the receive signal. These new technologies are integrated into LG’s latest modular design ready for future integrated circuit manufacturing to ease the path to commercialization.

Discussions on the standardization of the 6G network are expected to begin around 2025, and commercialization of the technology is expected in 2029. Compared to 5G wireless networks, 6G will provide far better data rates with lower latency and higher reliability.
Global companies are racing to enter the 6G space given the key role it will play in enabling all kinds of innovation, from ultra-realistic mobile holograms to the next phase of the Internet of Things and ambient computing, which will provide a more flexible and personal experience through organic connectivity. of people, objects and space.
LG actively cooperates with renowned research institutes, universities and companies around the world and aims to establish collaborations in the field of research and development of basic 6G technologies with organizations such as HHI, IAF, KAIST, KRISS and Keysight Technologies, Inc., in order to to accelerate the arrival of the next generation of wireless network communications.
In June 2021, the Next G Alliance, an initiative of the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS), selected LG as the leader of an application working group to discuss 6G technologies and guide the future direction of 6G telecommunications services.
